Truly, we can practice yoga anywhere. The postures practiced in yoga, comprise the third limb of eight laid out in Patanjali's Eight Fold Path. In the yogic view, the body is the temple of one's spirit, the care of which is an important stage of our spiritual growth. Asana practice develops the habit of discipline and the ability to concentrate, which is necessary for meditation.
"Āsana is not just doing exercise. Whichever posture brings you comfort and stability that is āsana. Now what is comfort? You have to define this. This is a very delicate issue. What is comfort is very different for different people. Shorter your comfort zone, the more miserable you are. This is because life is vast. But you are comfortable only in a limited sphere." -Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Our Practice Space
Our practice space can be anywhere. Ideally, we can create a space, wether permanent or temporary, that is free of clutter and distractions, quiet, and may have a simple item, plant, or scent that allows us to release our day and cultivate calm and serenity in our hearts.
When that is not possible, lay out your mat anywhere. I have practiced amidst my infants toys and spit up rags, near the ocean, in classrooms, and at airports. If you are comfortable and safe, there is no space that you cannot practice.
